The BCF, who in July celebrated their 110th year, are a Trade Association representing the interests of the decorative paints, industrial and powder coatings, printing inks, and wallcovering manufacturers in the UK.

They hold a National Award Ceremony every year which celebrates the achievements of its members working in the coatings sector.

Recipient of the award, Mr Gumbley, said:

Sam Gumbley - Research and Development Technician at Belzona

“I started at Belzona straight from school, choosing to go directly into industry without university. At Belzona, I have been able to develop my knowledge of coating formulation and application by working closely alongside my colleagues, who provide ongoing support and guidance.”

He continued: “In addition, undertaking the BCF Modules has shown that there are alternatives to university. The Modules have helped to validate the knowledge gained in the lab and have also helped me to increase in confidence within my role as Research and Development Technician. As a result, I am now looking to complete further, higher-level Modules.

Commenting on Sam’s Award, Mr Bowtell, said:

“I’m really happy to be here today to congratulate Sam on winning BCF’s Student of the Year Award, voted for by BCF’s CTI (Coatings Training Institute) Tutors. Many congratulations Sam!

Mr Gumbley’s Tutor said: “Sam consistently worked through his Module choice over a period of three years and produced good quality assignments and Tutor Marked Assessments. Sam covered the topics in the modules well and understood the content and delivered good results in the higher-level modules. Sam achieved two Distinctions and five Merits: he should be very proud of himself.”

Jevon Pugh, Research and Development Director said:
